But the reason stable distros do that with other software is that most programs are not backwards compatible in the way the Rust compiler is.
They should just stop doing that, it is quite frankly annoying enough with existing software that has huge version spread between the oldest LTS distro and the latest releases. And I say that as a sysadmin who runs all of those and needs to keep them running for customers.
