I suspect those people are also "this was the dream machine when I was young", and so don't want to admit that, while their dream machine was great for its time, it's not a great machine any more, as we expect more of systems than we did back then.
You see this on the software side in a subset of RISC OS enthusiasts, VMS, AmigaOS enthusiasts and others - people for whom a specific OS was amazing 30 plus years ago, and who can't admit that the lack of development since means that it's no longer what it was back in the day (as opposed to those who do the work to keep their preferred OS usable for their needs).
And, to be absolutely clear, this excludes people like Taylor and Glaubitz, who do seriously hard work to keep their preferred systems working well.
