Along with the 32032, I suspect the reason is that they had clean, well-designed , logical instruction sets.

That said, that was probably true of the Intel 4004 back in the day, and is probably no longer true for the "current" versions of the m68k etc. "It's nice and clean to program for" will attract a following ...
