I think the whole point here is that it often does, and people should be wary of relying on Intel projects in future, because there's evidence that they have even less respect for their users than Google (who at least generally give enough warning to get your data moved over in an orderly manner before shutting down projects).

They're absolutely allowed to do that, but people can and should draw their own conclusions from that behaviour
