I used to be grumpy about the fact that I was partly paying for the advertising of products that I was going to buy anyway. Then I realized that this advertising allowed the company to attract more customers and work on a larger scale; so the cost of advertising should lead to lower costs in general, especially if the company was still small and relatively unknown. Maybe in the long run, if the extra services are successful, there will be more, not less, money to invest in Thunderbird. So the important question for a contributor is not whether you will be using the extra services yourself, but whether they will be good for the company. Of course if there are any signs that the company loses interest in the product that you are interested in, that would be another matter, but that remains to be seen.
