Parent article: Catching up with calibre

I've always called it cal-lib-er, and it never occurred to me to do otherwise. I vaguely wonder whether this might be a US/UK English thing, where those for whom "calibre" is already a word continue to pronounce it as that word is pronounced, while those who'd spell the word "caliber" look for alternative pronunciations for the program's name.

I suspect so — as an Australian English speaker, I'd never even considered a pronunciation other than the English word calibre/caliber.

I can't speak for any other folks, but I knew the "libre" in calibre was referring to the "Libre" concept -- so I (mistakenly) thought it would be emphasized in the pronunciation as well. Otherwise, I'd pronounce "calibre" just like "caliber" in any other context.
