Subject: alpha-patches-2.0.34 Testers Wanted!
Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 18:05:21 +0500

I'm in need of testers for some new alpha-patches I'm working on, that are
targetted at the 2.0.34-to-be kernel (they are currently based on the
2.0.34-pre-11b set from Alan Cox).

I have a pre-built set of nearly all the supported Alpha platforms' kernels
located at gatekeeper.dec.com:

	/pub/DEC/Linux-Alpha/Kernels/Test-pre34-11b

Included there are example .config files for the kernels that were built, so
you can check to see exactly what drivers/options were selected. All the
common SCSI controllers and Ethernet controllers that are known to work on
Alpha should be "in there"; in addition, those kernels have parallel printer
support and PPP (not sure about SLIP), will work on VGA or TGA graphics,
and include EM86 support.

Many of those common drivers mentioned above have been updated for 2.0.34,
most notably: ncr53c8xx, aic7xxx, de4x5, and tulip. I chose the de4x5 driver
for the DEC TULIP chip support in those kernels, so be sure to note and
report any problems associated with it.

So, try out the various pieces your hardware/software will allow: IDE/SCSI
disks and CDs, Ethernet, EM86, PPP, etc.

I believe I have collected most of the known additions/corrections to the
last alpha-patches-2.0.32-0.1, but PLEASE let me know if I missed any, or
buggered anything else. It would be especially helpful to know if these
kernels work correctly for doing Red Hat or Debian installs.

These kernels were all built with the stock RH 5.0 compilers, etc.

For reporting of test results, mail directly to me (not axp-list) at:

	Jay.Estabrook@digital.com

and include system type, short HW config, and status.

Thanks, and happy testing!

Oh, and the better the response, the sooner the patches will be released. ;-}
