Some Extreme Linux News:
* A friend of Maddog's, created a VERY cool 'Extreme Linux' logo. It is
called 'Hot Shot'. You can see it displayed at www.extremelinux.org and
www.beowulf.org. The artist was Bill Pridgen (http://www.lectric.com).
Currently Maddog is the holder-of-the-image. Permission to use the logo
has been given for the following uses:
o Beowulf SYSTEMS running Linux
o Distributions of Linux Beowulf software which include the operating
system
o T-shirts, Hats, Tattoos, etc.
There will be another logo for items "Ready for Extreme Linux":
o hardware controllers with appropriate drivers
o software applications which either are used to create decomposition, or
are themselves decomposed so they run well on Extreme Linux
Other than these restrictions, the Logo is freely distributable.
* Linux Expo (www.linuxexpo.org) will be May 28-30, in Durham, North
Carolina. Register early! (http://www.linuxexpo.org/register.html) Hotel
rooms are getting tight. Call now...
* Lots of vendors will be at the Expo, including some that pre-configure
linux clusters for scientific computation. You can now choose whether to
build your own Beowulf, or buy a complete solution from AltaTech, DCG, or
Paralogic among others. Paralogic will have their 'coyote' Linux cluster
on display, and they will demo their parallel software, including Bert77.
AltaTech will have a very large system on the floor. NAG, maker of
scientific libraries will be there too.
* Douglas Eadline of Paralogic will be organizing a 'Birds of a Feather'
(perhaps penguins of a feather) meeting at the Expo. It is called
"Extreme Linux". The time is Friday, May 29 at 2:00 PM (location to be
announced in the packets given to all attendees).
* Los Alamos and others will be giving demos and brief overview
presentations of some Extreme Linux software. Thank you RedHat and Maddog
for the help getting setup.
* It is time to start organizing software if you want to contribute to Red
Hat's next Extreme Linux CDROM. Los Alamos is busy organizing 16 packages.
Contact Marc Ewing <marc@redhat.com> and Donald Becker
<becker@cesdis1.gsfc.nasa.gov> for more details.
