 XViewdata, as the name suggests is a Viewdata client for X. Both the
source and prebuilt Linux binaries are available for download from
the XViewdata homepage:

	      http://www.verrine.demon.co.uk/xviewdata/

 Currently, XViewdata supports connecting to hosts over TCP/IP and
serial (i.e. dialup), and provides a close emulation of a Viewdata
display under X. This includes (very) blocky graphics, double height
and flashing text. As far as I am aware, XViewdata gives the next
best emulation of a Viewdata terminal to the real thing.

 XViewdata is a response to a challenge that there wasn't a Viewdata
client for Linux, but plenty for Windows and Acorn machines. Since
this wasn't an acceptable state of affairs, I wrote XViewdata which
appears to have set some sort of a standard to measure other clients
against.

 Viewdata is an old standard, but an interesting one. The original
Prestel used it, and there are still some of the original dialup BBSs
around today as well as the new Internet based services. In
particular, CCl4 (www.ccl4.org) and Heaven (www.heaven.affection.net)
are available for all comers on the Internet, and offer an excellent
introduction to Viewdata.
