Hello, I posted this a few weeks ago but it never seemed to make it
into the group (maybe because of cross-posting). Which is just as well
because it gave me the opportunity to fix a bug or two.

Here's the README file:

vtfontd takes the specified virtual terminal(s) (VTs) into "process
mode", obtaining notification through a signal of all VT switches that
involve the controlled VTs. It then saves the console font in effect
while switching away from a particular VT, and restores it while
switching back to that VT.

This is most useful when running X Windows on machines where graphics
mode operation can corrupt the console font pages. Yes, it is a
software solution to a hardware problem. So what? An affordable
hardware solution does not exist.  However, vtfontd is more than that;
in effect, it "virtualizes" the console font, making it local to each
VT, rather than shared by all the VTs on the console.

You can download this from

Enjoy,
