Subject: ANNOUNCE: DCE Threads on Linux
Date: 2 Apr 1998 17:28:26 GMT

We've developed an adaptation library that provides backwards source
compatibility to the DCE Threads API using native LinuxThreads. This
release is freely-redistributable under the terms of the GPL. We include
a compatible implementation of the DCE Exceptions facility taken from the
public-domain release of the OSF DCE RPC 1.1 source.

This library will be provided as part of a FreeDCE 1.2.2 Snapshot 004.
I am making it available as a stand-alone package to provide broader
support for the DCE Threads API to Linux users. We realize that the DCE
Threads API has been superceeded by later drafts of the POSIX threads
standard. Although we encourage people to invest maintainance effort
in their sources and port upwards to the later POSIX standards, we realize
that larger and more complex source collections require a non-trivial
expenditure of time to port.

The documentation and source are available here:

I'd particularly like to hear feedback from others. Although we've
been quite successful with using this code to get some larger parts of
DCE working, we realize there may be some mistaken design assumptions
and bugs.

Enjoy
