The next meeting of the Worcester Linux Users' Group (WLUG) will be held
on
Wednesday, March 18th, 1998, in Kinnicutt Hall on the Worcester
Polytechnic Institute campus in Worcester, MA, USA at 7 PM.
For directions, please consult our web page:
http://rob.acol.com/~wlug/
or send me some e-mail.
At this meeting, Jeffrey Moyer, a member of our users' group, will be
giving a talk during on distributed systems, which will include the
following topics:
1. Distributed Scheduling.
a. Load balancing vs. Load sharing
b. preemptive vs. non-preemptive task switching.
c. Transfer, Selection, Information, and Location Policies
d. Sender initiated vs. Receiver initiated
2. Distributed Shared Memory.
a. Memory Coherence
b. Migration Algorithms
c. Page Replacement
3. Distributed Disk Space (as applies to the Beowulf project).
4. Programming for Distributed Systems (if we get to this)

All topics will be tied into the Beowulf project. Number 3 will be

request
a small donation to help defray the cost of the refreshments.
I hope to see you there!
