This is not a new project, but I thought I would announce it here for
those who did not know about it already.


The goal of the FreeDOS Project is to create another implementation of
MS-DOS. DOS appears to be a popular system, and there is plenty of
hardware already available that is ready to support it. I feel it is
then up to those on the Internet to develop their own DOS (FreeDOS) and
I feel there is a lot of support for this type of project. 

FreeDOS runs on all levels of machines. It will operate on processors as
low as the 8088 with as little memory as 640k. We may one day expand to
support other platforms, or may include "extras" such as 32-bit
multitasking. But for now, we're content to write our own version of
DOS.

If you run DOSEmu under Linux, and are looking for a good DOS to run,
you should try this.  FreeDOS is the official DOS for DOSEmu.

FreeDOS programs are written and distributed using the GNU General
Public License. Source to all FreeDOS programs (including the kernel and
replacement COMMAND.COM shell) is available.
