Subject: Windy City Pains CRPG game for Linux

In a move which totally wrong-footed industry pundits, Hexaid
Enterprises, whose CRPG, 'Anoraks of Doom', burst on the Linux scene over a
year ago with all the impact of a brown paper bag full of water, today
announced the release of their new production, 'Windy City Pains', as
Scareware. Yes; just when you thought it was safe to go on the Internet
again...
The CEO of HE, B O'Donnell, observed: We were hoping to get it out for
the 13th, but we had a bit of bad luck. Still, I'm very proud and happy -
No, not about the release;.I'm just naturally arrogant.
'Windy' is a very old-fashioned CRPG (Computer Role-Playing Game) in the
same style as 'Anoraks', with a slightly revamped screen and several minor
improvements, including early-Ultima style combats rather than the Bard's
Tale type, but still using a hexagonal grid for movement. It aims for a
B-movie film noir feel (missing by a mile), and is set in Mykinda, the Windy
City of the title, a town which has recently introduced Stoption in a bid to
decrease public drunkenness - and increase private.
It is free, with a couple of conditions for use, and can be downloaded

When 'Anoraks of Doom' was released, the reaction of the Linux community
was swift and effective, and a tribute to positive thinking; they crashed my
hard disk 3 times, ruined my CD-Rom and gave me a respiratory virus which
lasted for months. This time, I am prepared.
I have 4 lucky rabbit's feet, 1 lucky rabbit (he still has all his
feet), several 4-leaf clovers and a complete backup. My kernel is about due
for an update, too.
Reactions to the announcement have been mixed.
Greenpeace claim credit for the fact that no BSP trees were cut down
during the production of the game.
A Redmond spokesman announced:
We have a CPRG using octagonal tiles under active development, which we
will be beta-testing in a few months and releasing shortly before that. We
cannot yet confirm that 'Windy' is Year2000 compliant. Loosely speaking,
Access is a CRPG.
An anonymous Wilbur on the Streett babbled:
At one stroke, O'Donnell has demolished two myths - that Linux geeks are
smarter than the rest of us, and that C is a programming language. I have
6,385,271 lines of assembly code, so I can say whatever I like.
7 out of 10 doctors said: Who.
The moderator of comp.os.linux.announce asked: is he finished yet?
