Telnet98 is a new release of the ubiquitous "telnet" utility, based on
the 1995 MIT telnet distribution from ftp.cray.com and net-dist.mit.edu.

Telnet98 adds some new features to the distribution:

  * New 'configure' based build and install scripts. The configuration
    script is also used to specify compile-time options to telnet, like

    --with-krb4, --with-krb5, --with-srp, --with-spx, --with-rsaencpwd,
    --with-krb4encpwd, --with-des, --with-cast, --with-cryptolib

    --enable-noencryption, --enable-loginf

  * Support for additional authentication and encryption types.

  * Builds cleanly on a wider range of UNIX platforms.

  * Miscellaneous bugfixes.

See the README for more details.

Telnet98 can be downloaded from <URL:ftp://quasimodo.stanford.edu/pub/telnet/>;,
and US/Canadian users can find instructions there for downloading source
with strong (128-bit) encryption enabled.
