Parent article: Linux loses the Philips webcam driver

I'm in a ranting mood...

It's just a video camera driver! Has anyone ever found a worthwhile use for those things anyway?

And another thing:
Who's the brain-drain who first called these things "webcam"'s? What's the "Web" got to do with it? It's a video camera attached to a computer - nothing more.

I feel better now.

So What

I'm the owner of a Philips PCVC740K webcam, and I'm sorry that the pwcx portion (and perhaps the pwc part, as well) is going away. I've enjoyed using it during the past few years, but I'll just "bite the bullet" and purchase a newer, less-expensive, better, and better-supported make/model.

It's really not such a big thing: we end-up doing this frequently with a wide variety of items, where models change and/or are discontinued. Yes, it sucks, but Windows XP SP2 sucks much worse. Do the math.

+1: best capsule summary of the affair.
