Great news - I've been extremely happy with 3.2 for several months. I think KDE is maturing nicely now, but version 4.0 will no doubt blow us away a little more.
I'm looking forward most to the KDEpim/Kontact improvements, since I'm now using KMail as my primary mailer. Hopefully the 3.3 release will bring it up to par against Evolution, and address the remaining gaps. Running Gentoo, I guess I'll get to find out in a few days ;-)

Running suse 9.1 with apt, just upgraded to kde 3.3 - some conflicts with kdepim, but otherwise smooth. some subtle changes in the widgets, and some of the screensavers don't work, but for the most part it seems fine.

How does the performance and memory consumption feel like: slower, faster, same?

Some quick things I've noticed:
Konqueror in filemanager mode is a lot faster, at least to render the
icons (and they don't flick). Also kopete seems to be more responsive
while connecting to the accounts. KMail and KNode also seem more
responsive while performing network operations.
apt problems

AFAIK apt4rpm can't handle some of the rpm metainfos as far as rpm
contents are concerned, which causes the conflict.
As an alternative, you can use yast to update kde. Add ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/s...
as an installation source and do a "system update"
