Dear Tom,
Dear friends of lwn,
Due to your great support we feel an upcoming problem: Lots of people
want to support us - but bank transfers from GB to the Euro-Zone are
quite expensive. For that reason we have set up a different possibility
for donations from Britain to FSFE. It would be great if you could
pubish it.
thanks and kind regards
JJ

Donations to the FSFE in the United Kingdom
Due to substantial bank fees charged for international money transfers,
small donations or standing orders are too expensive to be sent directly
to the Free Software Foundation Europe bank account. To rectify this,
FSFE in July 2004 entered into an agreement with UK based associate
organisation AFFS to collect donations and transfer them in larger
batches.
FSFE welcomes donations through the simple interface at:
http://www.fsfeurope.org/help/donate-2004-uk.en.html
(only bank cards from the UK are accepted*)
FSFE is doing a precious job in defending free software and digital
freedom in Europe.

[*] Donors must hold a valid debit card issued by a UK bank or a valid
credit card where statements are sent to his/her UK home address.
About the Free Software Foundation Europe
The Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) is a charitable
non-governmental organization dedicated to all aspects of Free
Software in Europe. Access to software determines who may participate
in a digital society. Therefore the freedoms to use, copy, modify and
redistribute software - as described in the Free Software definition-
allow equal participation in the information age. Creating awareness
for these issues, securing Free Software politically and legally, and
giving people freedom by supporting development of Free Software are
central issues of the FSF Europe, which was founded in 2001 as the
European sister organization of the Free Software Foundation in the
United States.

About the Association For Free Software
AFFS is a membership organisation which promotes Free Software to
users, business and government. Our aims work towards continuing Free
Software for the UK and increasing public understanding of Free
Software.
The term "Free Software" refers to four kinds of freedom for the
users of a program:
* The freedom to run the program, for any purpose;
* The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to
your needs (Access to the source code is a precondition for
this);
* The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your
neighbour;
* The freedom to improve the program, and release your
improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits
(Access to the source code is a precondition for this).
