Waldo Bastian on Kiosk and the Linux desktop (KDE.News)

KDE.News interviews Waldo Bastian. "There are of course cost saving aspects but I think the most important reason for companies to go with KDE is that it puts the company back in control over their corporate desktops. With KDE your IT department gets new opportunities to help make your desktop workers more productive instead of spending all day fighting to prevent things from falling apart."

People following the Ximian/SUSE merge that's going on within Novell
might like to look at the comments
attached to this article.
Basically, it says that Novell is still thinking, and thus both KDE
people (like Waldo), and GNOME people (like most of Ximian) are still
active on their respective desktops.

Maybe they figured out that if they choose gnome|kde half of their
development staff would quit.
Does anyone think that Nat would all of a sudden start working on KDE, or
waldo, coolo and others would start learning gtk?
I find it quite amusing.

Hanging onto Ximian devs

Before I go further, I think I should point out that I'm a KDE user,
who's never got on with GNOME; please keep my bias in mind.
That said, I suspect that if Novell decide to drop a desktop, they'll
be able to hang on to a reasonable set of GNOME coders by porting Mono,
the Exchange Connector, and other similar technologies to Qt/KDE; I'm not
so sure that there's a way to hang onto the KDE staff.
Of course, Novell may well be intending to hang onto both desktops,
and develop them equally; we've had no official word, and it's only
speculation that they don't see a choice of environments as a selling
point to corporations.

Perhaps they plan to use Gnome for the US market and KDE for the European market.
