Linus gets spam filtering

People sending mail to Linus may want to cut back on their LINES OF YELLING, keep an eye on vulgar words in their code comments, and so on. It seems that Linus has started using SpamAssassin, and it is causing him to lose a few patches due to false positives. The number of false positives is small enough that he intends to continue using the filter. And, in the end, most developers probably agree that kernel development benefits if Linus spends less time wading through spam.

Linus gets spam filtering

People can request a Read-Receipt when they send to Linus. If he sets his e-mail to respond to these automatically then people will know what he's read. Given that he doesn't like to read old e-mail it would probably help everyone if he did this.

Linus gets spam filtering

Hey, it's just like the good old days back in the 1980's when every piece of email actually received was like a minor miracle! I still fondly remember the email to the next cubicle that was routed through Waterloo.

oh, and Linus, if you're watching, take a tip from a cop who does: you may find the combination of bayesian-based ifile with pattern-based spamassassin is much more reliable. Someday (soon perhaps) the two techniques will be folded together: Don't ya just love open source software!
