The Afterglow (Groklaw)

Groklaw has compiled some reactions to yesterday's ruling in the DaimlerChrysler case. "That Seattle newspaper had grave difficulty absorbing the news of the defeat. My all-time favorite intro to any of the stories was theirs: "A Michigan judge on Wednesday dismissed most parts of a lawsuit that sought to force auto giant DaimlerChrysler AG to comply with copyright laws and software agreements with a Utah-based software company.""

Danger of proprietary license terms

Posted Jul 23, 2004 10:54 UTC (Fri) by copsewood (subscriber, #199) [Link]

This case demonstrates a much greater risk to signing proprietary license agreements than accepting those which come with Free Software by distributing the latter. If this kind of case were not likely to be a one off, end users should be advised to always read click through or other proprietary agreements carefully and obtain legal advice before accepting the terms and conditions. If not, you may be hauled expensively through the courts years later based on one of the more obscure and minor obligations which you would have otherwise imagined to be moot and pointless.
