MontaVista Software and Sleepycat Software Deliver Fault-Tolerant, Open
Source Platform for Carrier Class Applications
Berkeley DB High Availability and MontaVista Linux Provide Reliable,
Scalable, Cost-Effective Solution for Networking Equipment Providers
EMERYVILLE and SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 20, 2004 Sleepycat Software, makers
of Berkeley DB, and MontaVista Software Inc. today announced their
collaboration to deliver and support a fault-tolerant and highly scalable
platform for developers of carrier-class telecommunications and networking
applications. The platform combines MontaVista® Linux® Carrier Grade Edition
with Sleepycat's Berkeley DB High Availability database to form a joint
solution that reduces time-to-market and total cost-of-ownership.
Berkeley DB High Availability 4.2 has been officially certified with
MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition 3.1, after passing a comprehensive
battery of tests. Both products are open source, which helps make them
exceptionally stable and easy to debug and integrate with applications. The
newly certified joint solution provides developers with a carrier-grade
platform that reliably scales across multiple blades in a chassis or multiple
servers on a network, providing hot standby and automatic failure recovery
with no loss of data.
"The certification of Berkeley DB on MontaVista Linux provides our joint
customers with the highest level of confidence in developing and deploying
applications for rigorous carrier grade environments, where performance,
scalability, security and high availability are paramount," said Bob Monkman,
senior product marketing manager, MontaVista Software.
"This partnership combines the market leaders in embedded databases and
embedded Linux," said Rex Wang, VP of marketing at Sleepycat Software. "Our
value proposition is clear - faster time to market and easier integration
while meeting the highest performance and reliability requirements in the
telecommunications market."
Availability
Berkeley DB High Availability 4.2 and MontaVista Linux Carrier Edition 3.1
are immediately available, from Sleepycat Software and MontaVista Software,
respectively, with joint certification for equipment based on x86-based
processors.
