Tried using the --force command which seemed to do the trick, but threw up some other errors later on. Rebooted and windows ran ok, but trying to create a partition in the blank space on the drive under XP's disk manager brought up an error. Would fixmbr solve this, and if not, anyone know what would be the best option?
