hello jonathan, hello editors,
don't know if tis (c|s)hould go to security or development.
logcheck got an alioth project this april
-> http://alioth.debian.org/projects/logcheck/
(active devel mailinglist and public forums)
the new debian logcheck team enhanced the debian
logcheck fork *):
* logcheck no longer runs as root, but as logcheck user
with adm group privileges in order to read the logfiles.
(seems more reasonable for a shell script doing many
string operations)
* the return values of all commands are checked
(catches full partitions for /tmp or /var/tmp dir)
* updated and added lots of rules
* enhanced manpage
* lowered ~80 bugnumber to currently 20, where most are wishlist
* added testing mode
* added translations for debian templates (de, fr, ja, pt_BR)
debian unstable has almost latest 1.2.23, changelog:
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/l/logcheck/logcheck_1.2.23/changelog
the team is now focussing on good rules for sarge,
the postsarge todo is to reorganize the messy dir structure in
/etc/logcheck, rename Section titles, support other distributions, ..

if you have any questions or please do not hesitate to ask me
or the team on logcheck-devel@alioth.debian.org or on #logcheck oftc.

*) initially forked by Rene Mayrhofer, because unmaintained upstream
further enhanced by Jon Middleton and Steven Kemp
