The only thing slightly intimidating about installing Slackware is that you have to partition your hard drive using either fdisk or cfdisk. There is not a "disk druid" or "disk drax" to do the partitioning for you. Apart from that it is pretty easy. I've used Slackware since release 1.2 and have been thoroughly imprinted on it, like a baby duck seeing its mama when it comes out of the egg.
