"End of the Line" was the name for version 1.2.14, the latest release of the 1.2 branch, which only supports gtk 1. A few people still insist on using the outdated galeon 1.2.x, but do want the latest mozilla releases. Since mozilla API changes continuously, the galeon 1.2 branch has to be patched to work with new mozilla releases. All recent galeon 1.2 releases have just been to keep up with mozilla releases - in all other senses, the branch is dead.

1.3.x releases are what everyone actually uses. They're full of gtk2.4/gnome2.6 goodness and have an excellent intuitive interface, with some previous complex configuration options being replaced by intelligent code to make them redundant. It also integrates to the gnome desktop far better. Galeon is certainly not at the end of its line - lots of development is going into the 1.3 branch, with each new version bringing many improvements.

Some of us disagree with that to such an extent that we're jumping ship to other browsers rather than upgrade. (A shame: Galeon still does several things, particularly in the bookmark area, better than Moz.)

What is there in 1.2.x that still isn't in 1.3.16? Certainly the early 1.3 releases were feature-light, and buggy, but I don't know of anything remaining to bring over. (I must admit I preferred where it put new, blank tabs in 1.2, but there are lots of things that are better in 1.3.16.)

I suspect you just haven't tried a 1.3 release lately.
