Subject:  Eclipse 3.0 bundled with free plugins - Yoxos delivers the first Eclipse Distribution
Date:  Tue, 6 Jul 2004 12:13:18 +0200

Yoxos Eclipse Distribution offers developers Eclipse 3.0 bundled with dozens
of popular Open Source plugins and an easy to use installation tool.

Innoopract, a provider of Eclipse-based tools and services announced the
introduction of Yoxos, the first Eclipse Distribution. Yoxos is a
distribution of the new Eclipse 3.0 plus a choice of the most popular Open
Source plugins, and prepackaged bundles of plugins eg, for Web development.
Yoxos aims to provide a valuable service to the Eclipse community by
extending the manageability of the Eclipse platform for users who utilize
Open Source plugins. With Yoxos, developers are spared the significant
investment in time and effort of, on the one hand finding, downloading and
installing plugins, and on the other hand managing the versions of plugins to
function properly with Eclipse and with each other.

As new versions of Eclipse are introduced, managed sets of plugins provided by
Yoxos enable customers to seamlessly upgrade to new versions. The goal of
Yoxos is to provide typical distribution services - helping to organize,
manage and install custom development environments from a broad set of Open
Source offerings. Yoxos will donate its code for any extensions to Open
Source plugins back to the community and will help plugin providers and Open
Source projects to adhere to Eclipse best practices.

Eclipse is a very powerful and extensive platform and through the ecosystem of
available plugins, developers have a broad set of choices for their
development projects. The breadth of Eclipse has its costs though, namely the
investment in time to find and download and evaluate plugins, as well as to
keep the working set of platform and plugins up to date.

Instead of having to obtain plugins from many sources and testing the
compatibility by trial and error, customers get their plugins in a
pre-integrated package from one source. With the Yoxos installer they can
choose specific plugins, certain bundles or create custom sets. With each new
release of Yoxos, the latest versions of Eclipse is provided and tested
against all contained plugins, thus drastically reducing the risk of the
Eclipse installation not functioning as new versions are added piecemeal.

"Our customers have been asking again and again for a distribution service
that makes their lives easier. We are happy to provide the first solution in
this area with the launch of Eclipse 3.0." said Jochen Krause, Founder and
President of Innoopract. "Yoxos is the ideal solution for developers who want
to take advantage of Open Source offerings but can't spend weeks evaluating
dozens of plugins and keeping their environment up to date."
