RealNetworks has been cranking out the press releases at GUADEC. This one
announces a deal with Red Hat; that company's upcoming desktop distribution
will feature Helix Player and a "no-cost upgrade" option for
RealPlayer 10. There is also an arrangement with
Novell; which will simply ship RealPlayer directly.

Shame on Red Hat and Suse for including a sentence like "Helix Player is the foundation of the forthcoming RealPlayer 10 for Linux which includes both open source as well as commercial components such as SMIL, MP3, Flash, and the leading RealAudio® and RealVideo® media formats." (Emphasis added). Their PR people should not be confusing proprietary with commercial.
Real dual-licensing Helix under the GPL is a big step forward. This probably means Helix will be included in Debian and also that far more community members will be hacking on Helix.
