Thursday Security Alerts

The following security alerts came out today:

  • Fedora has issued an update for the 2.4.22 kernel addressing numerous potential vulnerabilities in the handling of user-space pointers and, of course, the denial of service vulnerability.

  • Gentoo has issued an update for gzip that fixes a problem that causes code to be executed if the creation of a temporary file fails.

There is an update for the giFT-FastTrack plugin for the giFT file-sharing application, a vulnerability can allow remote attackers to crash the giFT daemon by sending mal-formed signals.

FC update announcement was somewhat confusing - there are several
kernel bugs fixed by that update and backport of the stuff caught
by sparse is completely unrelated to floating point fixes. I have
done the former but have nothing to do with the latter...
