Microsoft delivers 'the Facts' about Linux (The Register)

The Register reports on a new Microsoft seminar series in the UK that is aimed at convincing customers that Linux isn't exactly free. "According to Nick McGrath, head of platform strategy at Microsoft UK, independent and funded research shows that Windows 2003 is less expensive than Red Hat or SuSE in some examples. He attacked the "myth" that Linux was free. Linux has strengths, McGrath said (without saying what they might be -spoil sport) before arguing that "Windows offers a more comprehensive environment"."

I've seen some of these ads and guess what? Windoze Server 2003 is also FASTER than Linux! Faster and cheaper all in one product. And if you have any money left over I could sell you a bridge...

Windows is actually more well-rounded.

I say...well-ROUNDED.

...as in "when I sit around the house...."

FUD, FUD, FUD,
It's a ship all full of fud.
The USS MSFT
Is just chock-full of FUD.

(if you don't intuit the melody, I could hum it for you, but I can't recall where it's from. "all full of men" in the original, but if you need that clue you probably don't know it, I'm guessing. MLAS, sorry.)

market position

Yup. They are trying to confuse "free source code" with "the cost of doing business". Free source code is not an enabler for zero-cost computing. And obviously everyone should evaluate available options, but of course MS will only show one side of the coin.

MS needs to prepare for being "a player" on the market, because it's slowly sliding from being "the player" on the market.

Time for another rousing chorus. Everyone sing!

Eventually the principles of Darwin will win out as businesses saddled with MS products find it harder and harder to compete with rivals who have adopted Linux.

When Linux is so expensive like they mean, why they need to make such a seminar serie ?

It's part of MSFT's deal with Bush. He got the Justice Department to back off from its successful prosecution, they had to agree to the secret fudmeisters full-employment act. The cost of this counter-productive program is what's really been making trouble for MSFT recently.

Hey now! Getcher tin-foil hats here, folks! Just half as much as the MSFT annual software tax! Get 'em while they're hot!

Fact: Linux does not support...

Posted Jun 12, 2004 23:32 UTC (Sat) by leonbrooks (guest, #1494) [Link]

...the full range of trojans and viruses which MS-Windows supports.

We are, however, forced to admit that WINE does run some trojans, and that by deleting the code in WINE which checks to see if a program is being run by outlook.exe and balks, one can enrich the virus support considerably.

Linux also does not properly support Digital Rights Management, leading to huge losses of revenue from continued legitimate use^W^Wpiracy of electronic recordings and the inability of the appropriate authorities to properly track and monitor the useage of computer equipment.

Finally, Linux is very expensive for the US economy in that it allows unfettered competition from dangerous foreign helots. Many of these helots are from strange foreign religions, quasi-Christian cults or Atheist groups, and all are constantly calling into question the Great American Shakedown^WWay.

We apologise in advance for any editing marks which MS-Word may have left in this comment.
