Red Hat launches new desktop Linux (LinuxWorld)

LinuxWorld takes a look at Red Hat's new desktop offering and a an upcoming carrier grade Linux product. "[Unlike] the WS distribution, which is sold on a per-system basis, Red Hat Desktop will be available in packages of 10 or 50 units when it begins shipping, said Mike Ferris, Red Hat's product marketing manager for Enterprise Linux. "What we are doing now is extending the Enterprise Linux product family by adding a Red Hat product that is specifically targeted at the front office," Ferris said."

What's with all the Microsoft ads?

Is it just me, or are both of these Red Hat desktop stories (on LinuxWorld and NewsForge) peppered with Microsoft ads touting TCO, etc.? Interesting that Microsoft would make sure its ads show up on both of these articles on Linux-oriented sites...

They have indeed gone out of their way to make it happen. What's more, I've found it pretty much impossible to block them, even though Google provides that capability. I'm going to have to look into this again...

For those using MozillaFirefox, you can block ads using the information from the following pages. They are rather hard to find from the mozilla.org front page.

and

I've used these preferences for quite some time, and it's a rare occasion when I see any ad, let alone a Microsoft ad.

Enjoy!

old or incompatible browser, pah!

Interesting. I see no ads at the linuxworld site. Instead, I get the friendly message:

Please be advised that you are using an old or incompatible browser version.

Extra features are available with a newer browser. To view this site at its optimum performance, go to the websites of Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer and download the most recent browsers. Alternatively purchase the latest edition of PC World and dowload them off the CD.

This is with galeon 1.3.14 :) Still, if the "extra features" are ads, then I'm not complaining....
