Luke Gorrie has posted a short report on the status of SLIME. The
report tells about the system's stability and explains why the main
distribution method is still CVS.

SLIME (Superior Lisp Interaction Mode for Emacs) "is a new Emacs mode
for Common Lisp development". Among its major features are a minor
mode that enhances Lisp mode, a Common Lisp debugger with an
Emacs-based user interface, and powerful management of compilation
notes. SLIME works with (X)Emacs and supports half a dozen Common
Lisp implementations.
