The obligatory LWN status update
There is not a whole lot to report this week with regard to LWN's status
and life expectancy. We are still in "discussions" with our credit card
clearing company. We are still hacking on the subscription code (it's
mostly complete) but are not sure if we will be able to accept credit cards
to pay for those subscriptions. Hopefully all of this will settle out
before too long. Meanwhile, we're doing what we can to continue to produce
the best news available for the Linux and free software community. Thanks,

Much of it is sitting in a "hold account" until they decide that we did not just charge a bunch of random credit card numbers to raise money. And some of it is currently unaccounted for - seemingly a screwup on the clearing house's side. We're working on it...not much fun.

Posted Aug 22, 2002 18:57 UTC (Thu) by jre (guest, #2807) [Link] Even if one grants that a spectacular outpouring of community support is an inherently suspicious event, it seems reasonable to expect that your clearinghouse would have _some_ way of confirming that you are not committing fraud. What are they proposing to do -- wait some period and, if nobody complains, grudgingly hand over the money? The charge is on my credit card statement, and it burns my biscuits that my money is not going where I asked for it to go!

If they are holding the money on a verification basis, who do I contact to let them know it isn't fraud. Oh, and be sure to ask what the interest rate is they are paying you. You know they are holding the cash in an interest earning account.
