Record Numbers To Attend This Year's LinuxUser & Developer Expo
2004 Expo Filled to Capacity
London: 19 April 2004 - LinuxUser & Developer Expo 2004, the UK’s premier
Linux event, has today announced that the number of exhibitors has exceeded
all expectations, with more than 100 companies signed up. Exhibitors
attending the event in Olympia London from 20th – 21st April 2004 include
IBM, LDRA, Rackspace Managed Hosting, Red Hat, SuSE Linux and Sybase.
“This year’s LinuxUser & Developer Expo is set to be the best Linux show yet
to date in the UK. The calibre of exhibitors taking part in the show, as
well as the large numbers of pre-registered attendees for both the
conference and the show, proves this,” said Maggie Meer, director of
Horsepower Media and publisher of LinuxUser & Developer magazine. “We are
expecting a record number of visitors and guarantee that they will not be
disappointed with what is on show.”
Visitors to this year’s expo will be able to fly around world using the
world's first Open Source flight simulator whilst sitting in a Royal Navy
Westland Wasp Helicopter. The equipment comes from FlightGear.org, an Open
Source, multi-platform cooperative flight simulator development project,
that was originally set up by a group of Open Source enthusiasts who wanted
to create a sophisticated flight simulator framework for use in research or
academic environments, for the development and pursuit of other interesting
flight simulation ideas, and as an end-user application.
Other feature areas planned for this year's show include:
a.. OFE/OpenAdvantage Business Advice Centre and Linux Desktop
Demonstration – the centre is designed to build up the confidence of
business users in desktop Linux and Open Source software and to encourage
the adoption of Open Source business applications
b.. SUSE Business Solutions Centre – in this theatre environment, there
will be an array of presentations on a variety of subjects. Visitors to the
centre can seek advice on Linux implementation and training issues
c.. Product Presentation Theatre – this feature will create a forum for
exhibitors to present their products, helping visitors compare and assess
the best Linux solutions for their IT requirements
d.. Adelix Hot Spot service – will allow visitors to the Hot Spot Zone to
connect wirelessly to the internet using their laptop, PDA or other handheld
device free of charge
The April 2004 event follows the successful launch of the LinuxUser &
Developer Expo – the Linux Zone by Horsepower Media, at the Networks for
Business June 2003 event. Over 5,000 visitors attended the 2003 show with
95% involved in purchasing for their business and 70% at manager or director
level. The 2003 conference programme was a sell-out success.
