The web page for the SoundTouch library lists the following as one of its features:

Additional assembler-level and Intel-MMX instruction set optimizations for Intel x86 compatible processors (Win32 & Linux platforms), offering several times increase in the processing performance.

Is it possible that the speed difference you encountered was due to the 32-bit version using these optimisations and the 64-bit version not?
