Lindows becomes Linspire

Lindows has announced that its distribution (formerly known as "LindowsOS") is now called "Linspire." Perhaps this means we are done with tiresome "Lindows v. Microsoft" press releases now.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop; i.e., when the amount they have to pay Microsoft is revealed, and all those suck^H^H^H^Hcustomers who bought into "Lindows", n.k.a. "Linspire", find out that, say, "Linspire" got sold to EMI for an undisclosed amount, and how suddenly Microsoft products are showing up there for fee-based download.....

"Linspire"? Dear me. Can you GET any more marketroidish?

Yeesh. Think I'll stay over here in non-suit land, where distros have names like "Debian" and "Gentoo" and "Red Hat" and the like. Linux distros should have fun names, not names that reek of focus grouping and Madison Avenue.

Bah... It is much better than Lindows, at least Linspire pays homage to Linux and
Debian (Debian logo is a spiral) on which it is based, instead of referring to that pity
excuse for an OS it pretended to take market-shares. Could we really expect more ?

I agree. 'Linspire' is really the better name. 'Lindows' was a ridicolous
play on 'Windows' and much harder to take serious.

Well, it may be a "better" name, but that's damning with faint praise, you know. :-)

I was rooting for the name to be changed to MSsux. That wouldn't be a legal problem, would it?

What are they gonna do? Sue on the basis of definition of character?

Yeah---suits. And according to Robertson, those suits wind up getting their suits(!) worked out in front of people who wear dresses....

What amazes me is that two companies run by people with asparaging attitutes toward government wound up.....

....fighting in front of a bunch of governments....

I would have voted for the name of "Windom".

I would have gave Redmond a little hat tip, and called it Konspire instead of Linspire
