The User-Accessible Filesystem Hierarchy StandardThe User-Accessible Filesystem Hierarchy StandardPosted Apr 8, 2004 18:43 UTC (Thu) by lonely_bear (subscriber, #2726)Parent article: The User-Accessible Filesystem Hierarchy Standard I really like a standard way to store all user configuration files in a directory under $HOME. It is extremly ugly when almost all the programs try to make .something local config files. If program that follows $HOME/config/program_name/whatever_conf_files will be nice. Whether it is a hidden directory does not really matter although I prefer a non-hidden one. Or better to let a environment variable to control the directory name.
