GMx Solutions Releases VAPServerž¹ Infrastructure Management Appliance

Hardware Appliance Features CM_SAFEž¹, Which Can Reduce Enterprise
Cost-of-Ownership by 10% to 30%

TAMPA, FL, August 15, 2002 - GMx Solutions, makers of the Virtual Appliancež¹
(VAPž¹) suite of enterprise infrastructure management tools, today announced
the release of its VAPServer infrastructure management appliance, which
provides CM_SAFE configuration file management services to almost any open
systems environment.

"With VAPServers, any company with Open Systems servers can get the same
configuration file protection we currently provide to our zSeries and
iSeries customers," said James Neal, GMx Solutions chief technology officer.
"As a result, many more companies can realize the benefits of reduced
downtime and easier maintenance. CM_SAFE has been benchmarked to reduce
unplanned downtime incidents by as much as 80 percent."

CM_SAFE provides the foundation for the VAPServer. As the first of the VAP
suite of tools developed, CM_SAFE takes system administrators' control of
their enterprise to a new level by providing full configuration management
and version control capability for configuration files. It allows systems
administrators to easily store server configuration files for individual
hosts or groups of hosts in a centralized configuration repository. In the
event of a configuration problem, CM_SAFE analysis tools allow quick
identification of the problem. Systems administrators can then use a single
command to retrieve a known-working configuration from the repository,
restoring the host to a working state.

CM_SAFE includes extensive disaster recovery functionality that allows
businesses to add server configuration assets to their current disaster
recovery and business continuity plans. Systems administrators can easily
create recovery images for any host monitored by CM_SAFE and place them on
CDs for later usage. If recovery is required, the CM_SAFE self-documented
restoration capability allows even a junior systems administrator to restore
the recovery image to its respective host.
CM_SAFE also enables customers to configure replacement servers on demand,
document current and proposed changes to their enterprise infrastructure,
and provides visual reports that pinpoint changes made in important
configuration files, increasing security for business-critical applications.

The system management capabilities included with CM_SAFE can reduce total
cost of ownership of enterprise business-computing environments by 10 to 30
percent, and can save companies millions of dollars of lost revenue and
market value that can result from unplanned outages.

The VAPServer is custom designed and configured to run VAP software
efficiently and with minimal user intervention. The initial release will
feature the DataCenter Lite version with support for 10 agents, and the
DataCenter version, with support for 50 agents. Both DataCenter and
DataCenter Lite are upgradeable to 250 agents with the release of the
Enterprise version, scheduled for September.

Agent components are currently available for UNIX clients on iSeries,
zSeries, Intel, SPARC, and PA RISC platforms. Support for PowerPC, Microsoft
Windows NT, and 2000 clients will soon be added.

CM_SAFE is the first of nine Virtual Appliances to be developed by GMx
Solutions. Virtual Appliances are designed to alleviate the most common
challenges faced by system administrators responsible who support open
systems servers. Each application included as a Virtual Appliance is
directed specifically at handling a specific challenge area. Future Virtual
Appliances will handle Event Management, Time Synchronization Management,
Network Information Management, Service Management, Authentication
Management, Messaging and Notification Management, Event Analysis
Management, and Print Management.
