Linux Configuration Management Solution for zSeries
Deployment Manager for Linux on zSeries Simplifies Deployment of Hundreds
to Thousands of Heterogeneous Linux Images
HOUSTON (Aug. 13, 2002) BMC Software, Inc. [NYSE: BMC], a leader in
enterprise management, today announced Deployment Manager for Linux for
zSeries, a configuration management solution which reduces costs, improves
customer satisfaction and ensures maximum uptime and performance by easily
and dynamically deploying software for thousands of heterogeneous Linux
images running in a zSeries z/VM environment. In January, BMC Software
announced Deployment Manager for Linux for the Intel platform. Due to
customer demand, BMC Software has extended Deployment Manager for Linux to
the zSeries platform.
Many customers are migrating to Linux on zSeries as the platform of choice
for server consolidation projects. These server consolidation projects
often result in the need for hundreds or even thousands of Linux images to
support the migrated applications. Deployment Manager for Linux enables
administrators to transparently deploy, maintain and upgrade software for
thousands of heterogeneous Linux nodes, images and applications from a
single console according to preset rules. For example, Deployment Manager
for Linux automatically deploys the latest security updates through a
single console, simplifying remote deployment and securing companies'
mission-critical Linux environments.
Deployment Manager for Linux delivers an additional level of confidence by
offering software and hardware certification, distribution, deployment and
policy management services. It ensures maximum uptime and performance by
enabling customers to deploying software combinations that have been
pre-tested for interoperability, scalability and performance in extensive
automated certification laboratories.
"It can be difficult to implement changes to a large enterprise with
numerous Linux images without disrupting systems that are already in
place," said Lori Allen, vice president, Linux Solutions, BMC Software.
"Deployment Manager for Linux improves efficiency and productivity by
automating the planning and deployment process while reducing the
previously high cost of Linux configuration management. Additionally,
with our certification lab, customers can be assured that our solutions
will enhance the manageability of their mission-critical Linux
environment."

Deployment Manager for Linux will be available globally in September of
2002 Pricing for Deployment Manager for Linux varies depending on the
platform Distributed pricing for Intel-based servers starts at $640 per
