Significance of the OLS

For other Linux users and admins that don't do enough development to be interested in submitting papers, but like me just want to know what the significance of the various Linux events are, here's a concrete example of a VERY significant presentation at OLS last year (2003).

The lead developer of udev, as implemented in kernel 2.6 [pdf] (then kernel 2.5, the paper is slightly dated where it mentions current status and future work, but remains an excellent introduction to udev) presented a paper last year. Given that udev is one of the important new features of 2.6, the fact that OLS was chosen to make this major presentation says quite a bit about the type of presentations one can expect out of OLS. I look forward to seeing just what topics are on this year's list.
