Yeah, I think it sucks too. Those square things on your screen: they are windows, right? Any other reasonable term for them? And Microsoft didn't invent that term. Sigh.
The Mandrake issue is different. Because Mandrake emphasised the "magic" as part of its logo (wands, trails of stars, etc.) it is clear that they were referring to the Mandrake-the-magician cartoons. However I still think it's short-sighted of the Mandrake-the-magician trademark owners to sue. It was free advertising for them, without infringing on their use in any way. And geeks are well known as cartoon consumers too :-). As someone on Slashdot suggested, they should have just bought an ad on the install screens.
