I love the exposure to new information that I have been able to consistently obtain through LWN. This time it came from following the recent announcement that new FOSDEM interviews were available that led me to explore what FOSDEM has been/will be about. I would love to be able to attend, and I discovered that I will, in a way - through Jabber.

This year, FOSDEM is encouraging virtual attendance through the use of a Jabber server with group chat rooms set up to correspond to the actual conference premises. Or at least, that's the plan as I gather it. They have some exciting goals, and demand will only fuel their success.

I've been wanting to explore Jabber technology ever since I began to read about it; if you're like me, then this might be a great opportunity. Some of the FOSDEM staff hanging out in their virtual Jabber community have lamented the lack of publicity for this option, and so I wanted to expose it as best as I could here. True, FOSDEM starts very soon. But I still would like to get a chance to talk to you in one form or another at the conference!
