Evans Data Corporation's new North American Developer Population Study finds that there are more than 1.1 million developers in North America spending at least some of their time working on Open Source development projects.

I always think of this number as "one Bell System" -- it's approximately the number of employees the Bell System ("Ma Bell") had before divestiture in 1984. It's huge.

I recall a conversation once with Ted T'so, who was talking about the weird units of measurement that Telcos use, such as "kilofeet". I'm sure he'd appreciate this novel unit.
