finds that there are more than 1.1 million developers in North America
spending at least some of their time working on Open Source development
projects.

I always think of this number as "one Bell System" -- it's approximately the number of employees the Bell System ("Ma Bell") had before divestiture in 1984. It's huge.

I recall a conversation once with Ted T'so, who was talking about the weird units of measurement that Telcos use, such as "kilofeet". I'm sure he'd appreciate this novel unit.
