BlankLatest version offers additional compression and streaming capabilities
Oakland, CA. - February 4, 2004 - The OpenHSF Initiative today made
available the free source-code version of the HOOPS Stream Toolkit
(HOOPS/Stream) v10.0, the import/export SDK for the HSF format.
"Open means free - a freely published specification, free SDK to aid
implementation and free use for end users. Continuing to provide the HSF
read/write SDK free to all interested parties demonstrates the commitment
of the OpenHSF Membership to solving the problem of lightweight streaming
and data exchange in a truly open manner," said Ron Fritz, Managing Partner
of TSA and Acting Executive Director for the OpenHSF Initiative.
HOOPS/Stream enables application developers to more quickly and easily
implement full and accurate import and/or export of the highly compressed
OpenHSF visualization format. By offering the HOOPS/Stream software without
charge, the OpenHSF Initiative continues to promote a fully open approach
to creating an industry standard for visualization.
About the HSF Format
The .HSF file format contains highly-compressed, lightweight visualization
information that can be used to move 2D and 3D data more fluidly through an
enterprise. This fluent exchange of model data helps organization
communicate more effectively and efficiently, both internally and
externally, and greatly aids in the repurposing of rich CAD models for
lightweight uses such as view/mark-up, training, assembly/maintenance,
documentation, design-in-context and e-commerce. HSF provides a rich
scene-graph definition for engineering-centric data as well as
sophisticated compression for the rapid transmission of files over
networks. OpenHSF extensions exist for animation/behaviors and representing
assembly structure, with more XML extensions currently being devised,
proposed and ratified by the growing OpenHSF membership.
About the OpenHSF Initiative
The OpenHSF Initiative is an industry-wide effort to establish a common,
open and rich format for sharing visualization data between users of
disparate engineering applications. Members include leading software
vendors such as Dassault Systemes, PTC, MSC.Software, SolidWorks, ANSYS,
Alias, Fluent, Proficiency, CADKEY, Hitachi Zosen, INCAT, Rand Worldwide,
Actify, IronCAD, Informative Graphics, and ITI/Transcendata. Members also
hail from major organizations using engineering software including Boeing,
Ford Motor Company, DaimlerChrysler, Bombardier, Intel, Sandia National
Laboratory and Tenneco Automotive.
