The most successful ploy is to use uClibc. tomsrtbt isn't even a firewall, it's a recovery floppy. It works fine for what it does and isn't developed much anymore. If I were the author I see no reason to start afresh with 2.4. Many rescue distros have gone to CDs or flash memory anyway.
