Stable kernel 2.6.2 released

Linus has announced the availability of the 2.6.2 kernel. Very few changes have been made since the last release candidate. For those of you just tuning in, the major changes since 2.6.1 include a bunch of block device hotplug work, many big driver updates, sysfs support for many new types of devices, a big XFS update, some sleep_on() removal work, and lots of fixes; see the long-format changelog for the details.

But you missed the biggest change of all - the name:

2 alastair@gluck:~/linux-2.6> head Makefile
VERSION = 2
PATCHLEVEL = 6
SUBLEVEL = 2
EXTRAVERSION =
NAME=Feisty Dunnart

That's right, the name is no longer just a vague christening issued by Linus; it's actually embedded in the Makefile now. That makes me wonder what they're planning to do with it! I have mailed in for clarification :-)

A carnivorous marsupial? The tiny Fat-tailed dunnart Sminthsopsis crassicaudatus is a feisty carnivorous marsupial barely larger than a mouse.
