Austin Group Status Report Austin-204r1 Page 1 of 1
Submitted by Andrew Josey, The Open Group. Jan 31, 2004
The Austin Common Standards Revision Group (CSRG) is a joint technical
working group established to consider the matter of a common revision
of ISO/IEC 9945-1, ISO/IEC 9945-2, IEEE Std 1003.1, IEEE Std 1003.2 and
the appropriate parts of the Single UNIX Specification. Having completed
the initial deliverable in late 2001, the group is presently working
on maintenance activities. The most recent deliverables are the
2003 edition of the standard which has now attained International
Standard status, and Technical Corrigendum 2 which is going through
its formal approval stages.
The IEEE and The Open Group 2003 edition of the standard was published
March 31 2003, and updates the 2001 edition of the standard to include
Technical Corrigendum 1 (TC1). The 2003 Edition is formally known as:
IEEE Std 1003.1, 2003 Edition
The Open Group Technical Standard Base Specifications, Issue 6
Includes IEEE Std 1003.1-2001 and IEEE Std 1003.1-2001/Cor 1-2002
and its worth noting that within the text the standard is still referred
to as IEEE Std 1003.1-2001.
The 2003 edition is also an international standard, with ISO/IEC
publication occurring on August 18 2003. It is denoted as ISO/IEC
9945:2003 and comprises four parts:
Part 1: Base Definitions
Part 2: System Interfaces
Part 3: Shell and Utilities
Part 4: Rationale
Technical Corrigendum 2 (TC2) addresses defect reports submitted
up to August 14 2003. Its final draft was produced on November 19 2004
and the document has passed its ballots at IEEE and The Open Group.
The document is undergoing the final approval stage and is expected
to become an approved IEEE and The Open Group standard during
the first quarter of 2004.
We expect to merge TC2 with the current standard text at least for the
IEEE and The Open Group edition of the standard. This is expected
to be in the March/April timeframe. ISO has indicated that
they do not want to publish another revised edition so soon after the 2003
edition, and thus will publish just the TC2 document of changes.
IEEE and The Open Group have granted the Linux Man pages project
permission to derive manual pages from the standard. Further requests
from other open source projects have been received and are being
considered.
Regular bi-weekly teleconferences continue to be held to review new defect
reports (aardvark).
