Snort 1.8.6 Receives First ICSA Labs Certification

SNORT 1.8.6. RECEIVES FIRST ICSA LABS CERTIFICATION

Rigorous Test Proves Strength of Core Sourcefire Technology

COLUMBIA, Md., August 6, 2002 - Sourcefire, Inc., a leader in protecting
enterprises and government against the threat of network attacks and misuse,
today announced that Snort 1.8.6 is the first product to receive ICSA Labs
T1 NIDS (Network Intrusion Detection System) Certification. Snort, the open
source platform that provides the foundation for Sourcefire's commercial IDS
offerings, was validated in four different areas: exploit identification,
false positive rate, event logs and performance. The program from ICSA
Labs*, an independent division of TruSecure* Corporation, is the industry's
first and only certification testing for NIDS.

To achieve certification, Snort endured a rigorous testing, assessment and
validation process from ICSA Labs. The open source platform accurately
identified 100% of exploits launched within a live network at a rate of 10
Mbps. Snort was also well within the acceptable rate for unique false
positive alerts in the 24 hr test. ICSA Labs will assess Sourcefire's
Network Sensor during future certification phases, including T3 networks.

"The ICSA Labs Certification of Snort demonstrates the validity of open
source solutions in network security," said Martin Roesch, CTO and founder
of Sourcefire, Inc. as well as the author and lead developer of Snort. "ICSA
certification is a highly recognized industry standard, and working with
ICSA Labs ensures Sourcefire can continue to help our customers stay one
step ahead of ever-expanding security threats."

ICSA Labs is an independent organization that today certifies more than 95%
of the security industry's anti-virus software, PC and network firewalls,
cryptography, and IPSec products. ICSA Labs formed the Intrusion Detection
Systems Consortium in 1998, generating an undisputed central authority on
product standards and testing for NIDS. Complete criteria and certification
test results may be found at: <http://www.icsalabs.com/>.

"As enterprises increasingly rely upon NIDS technology to complement
firewalls and other security devices, security professionals that are
considering these important IT purchases look to ICSA Labs testing and
certification programs to substantiate vendor claims." said Scott Markle,
IDS Program Manager of ICSA Labs. "Snort performed to our high standards of
rigorous testing and we were pleased that Sourcefire provided the means for
us to test the open source technology."
