For those of us who remember the KDE/GNOME flame wars of years past ...

Funny part is that I never could see this as a war, and most people I know using linux didn't either (we had a discution on this a while ago)

The only thing I did noticed was a few lengthy heated discution (ok, ok, flames) of very few but loud hot heads. In my experience, most people seem to just try both and chose one over the other on some specific personal criteria, often changing their minds again later, and left it at that.

I believe this "war" image was fueled by story makers to have something to tell about (not lwn, of course!).

Note, however, that if there really was such a thing as a "War" going on, It was most certainly was very proper one.
