However, it shows Microsoft's intention to rent software to people is just not logical. What are you renting exactly? Why not just buy it to use for as long as you want? Microsoft is going to have to produce new software over longer timescales and accept a reasonable hit on revenue - they will still be a heck of a lot more profitable than anyone else though.
